Terrace party @ Casa tomorro & Roy Ayers

This song pretty sums up today and always puts a smile on my little chubby face.Especially in this weather, made in 1976.I've heard Ralph drop this at basics once and it just was just perfect.Keeping with the theme of sunshine and partys.Tomorrow our good friends and one of my recidencies Down N Dirty have teamed up with Blinded By the Grooves to throw a one off end of summer party. This was arranged on thursday last minute due to the sudden heatwave and everybody feeling jolly & wanting to celebrate the summer we didn't have.

.

The fun kicks off at 1pm and the soundtrack to the day will be provided by the following guest Dj’s playing a nice Balearic mix of Disco, House and Deep House until 7pm with the outdoor bar and BBQ.

Cutloose: Phil South & Anton Esteban TOMORROW

This Friday, Balearic disco duo Phil South and Anton Esteban host Manchester's favourite basement club for another monthly injection of discoparty at the Roadhouse. The Cutloose brand enjoyed a lot of success in 2010 bringing names such as Theo Parrish, Idjut Boys, Rahaan and Moodymann to the Manchester faithful.

This week, Golf Channel's Phil South and Anton Esteban jet in to emulate the No Ordinary Monkey parties of NYC, and if all goes to plan we're in for a corker of a night. As well as this, we will be treated to the warm up by the Cutloose residents who have softened the dancefloor for the likes of Theo Parrish, Moodymann and Felix Dickinson amongst others. Check out Paul Jenks' mix for testpressing.org below.

For 2011, March sees the welcome return of vinyl connoisseur Mark Seven (check out his Slow Blow mix, posted last month) and in April, deep house don Theo Parrish makes his way back to the Roadhouse (and if last years was anything to go by, it'll sell out quick so DO NOT sleep). On top of all that, in May, Portuguese maestro Tiago (ESP Institute, DFA, Golf Channel) makes his Cutloose debut. Also, keep your eyes peeled for some extra-special-secret-hush-hush-Cutloose goings on involving some VERY SPECIAL GUESTS, watch THIS SPACE. Check out their website for ticket details.

In the meantime, check out the mixes below from Cutloose resident Jenks for fellow blog Test-pressing, plus mixes from South and Esteban. A special promo mix by Wes from Cutloose coming soon...

Back to Basics - The 1000th Party

1991. Britain is in deep recession. Unemployment figures reach 2 million. The Gulf war has begun. The nation is submerged in doom and gloom.

By November, the locals of Leeds had an escape route. A gateway to a better place with good company, good times and a soundtrack to match. On November 21st of that year, The Music Room opened its doors to the first Back to Basics night. Ralph Lawson, unaware that he was about to kick-start an institution, playing the first record; Marshall Jefferson's 'Open Our Eyes'. Fast forward 20 years and they are the proud owners of the longest running club night in the world. In its time the like of Daft Punk, Basement Jaxx, Groove Armada, Derrick Carter and Todd Terry have taken control of the mixer at the now legendary club. As Basics founder Dave Beer once said, ‘anyone who is worth their salt in dance music have passed through the doors’. This weekend, Basics regulars will be treated to their 1000th party, with deep/soulful house ambassador Kerri ‘Kaoz’ Chandler headlining. Chandler will be playing a 4 HOUR set, complete with live vox and keyboards. Holy Schmoke.

It doesn't stop there for the Basics crew. The line-ups for the next two month have been released, and they are as strong as ever - there'll be no break to get our heads together with a solid line up each week throughout January and February. Slow Cookin' favourites S.A.S. (Adam Shelton & Subb-an) celebrate their One Records party, we see the return of long time resident and Basics regular Andrew Weatherall and we round off an eventful two months with Italians stars Massi DL and Rio Padice. As well as these superb bookings, the residents are amongst the best you will find. Upstaging the guests is a regular occurence.

Cast your eyes over these line ups and get your place booked ASAP.
