Buckley -Hacienda Mix 88-92

hacienda 11th birthday, the heads have been chopped off at the back but its Dave Morales, Mike Pickering, Danielli Davoli(black box) Tony Humphries, Graeme Park,Tom Wainwright, Miles Hollway,Bickley,Marshall Nic Louver

Our good old friend and house veteran Buckley has been looking under a few old rocks and this mix has turned up. All the traxx are from the era of 1988-1992, even Buckley himself has said that this sort of tackle was the blueprint for the house he plays today. I asked Buckley about the mix and he advised that this was a mix he recorded around 6 years ago as he was asked to play an offical hacienda night in Brum alongside Jon Da Silva & Graeme Park. This was a bit of a trip down memory lane for him as he's not your usual paul Taylor Retro type girly spinner who plays old chart dance music then calls is retro.Buckley was a resident at the hacienda but never clung onto it like some do(playing haciendia re-union's & living off the name), he evolved along with the times and always kept one step ahead of the scene which explains why he's pretty much the Basics core crowds fave(well mine anyow). With upcoming releases on 2020 vision,Hot Natured & One records and past releases on Basics own label & Extended Play all of which are very credible & big labels This proof that he is still at the ripe old age that he is staying one step ahead.Anyway thats enough about Buckley & more about the mix we have here.Buckley was asked to play a party in Birmingham a while back & choose play the era from 1988-1992 but before the gig he got a bit of a bug in the back of his brain thinking he best actually get the vinyl down n give these a run as 95 % of them have not been played for best part of 18 years. So as prep for the gig he dusted off the old slabs of plastic and put this together off the cuf dust n play whilst the record button was rolling. This mix contains alot of what was the foundations of what got Buckley into house and what was also kicking about that time, all killers no fillers in this one...points for the tracklisting in the comments box.

Luke Gibson-Throwing Shapes Podcast

A Good Friend of ours Luke Gibson recently(well a few month back now) was a guest on Tristan & Frenchys "Throwing Shapes" show . This is a show I always try to listen to live if not i catch up on after as they are always fresh and as u can see all the guests are very credible respected artist's. Luke Gibson is a new up n coming artist with Tracks already signed to disport records & a string of releases in the pipe on various labels. Luke is one to watch out for in the near future as a DJ & producer. He has sent me some of his E.PS and they are wicked really housey well produced & has the Luke Gibson stamp on them.My tip is that he will be joining the League of Leeds heavy hitters along with his fellow buddies Burnski,Simon Baker & co in the not too distant future.

For Frenchy & Tris to select Luke to do the show, shows he must be hitting the correct buttons with the people who have there finger firmly on the button.

The show is usually by weekly on a thursday on http://www.myhouseyourhouse.net/.

A few words from the Gibtash himself.

Brooklyn Radio-History of Hip Hop

I was put onto this by Sam Hardcastle, and thank god I was pure hip hop in the best form full of classic's/not so classic's but all credible Hip Hop.The mixes are split into each year so you have a full mix of hip hop from 1990,1991 and so on. So don your hi-tops, turn your cap to the side and pull ya kegs a little lower

Word!...

The Blurb...

"Baker, DJ Ayres, and DJ Eleven of The Rub present their history of hip-hop series on BrooklynRadio.net.

After a
tour of the 80s, the crew digs into the genre as it becomes a pop culture phenomenom in the 90s. Starting with the jazzy samples of the Native Tongues movement in the early part of the decade, with groups like A Tribe Called Quest and the Jungle Brothers, the series moves into the gangster pop of the East Coast/West Coast rivalry. Theres plenty of Biggie, Tupac, Dre, Snoop, Wu-Tang, Jay-Z, club classics, forgotten singles, the start of the indie era with Rawkus, and flavors from different parts of the country as the genre expanded to the South. Don't flop Rap Battle's

Came across this as a facey link via a friend in the hip hop comunity. I was instantly hooked...some are funny for pure banter reason's some are funny because they try so hard to be "badman". Either way they are well worth a watch. After watching a few i realised that this was a full on comunity with 1000's of people into this. I thought this was only 8 mile shit and didn't exsist in this country on such a big level. I was then thinking i would love to go to one of these events soon, then blam i get an invite to a .Don't Flop Leeds.

Butter Side Up with Leftside Wobble

Stuck for something to do this Friday???...

If i wasn't heading to see mama & papa Challis i would defiantly heading to this nice little party thrown by the Leeds based outfit Butterside up. I’ve been a big fan of Leftside Wobble for a while now and pretty much always try squeeze an edit or two when i play the KSD partys.Leftside Wobble has a massive string of edits & mixes that are deadly. The venue is right for the occasion too(small((ish))nice system and underground) and with the seasons coming to a close and summer(well what we had) is now ending and the countdown to xmas(x-factors started on the telly box), this is the perfect way to say bye the middle of 2011 and the start of the English winter clubbing season. While Basic's & co are getting the heavy hitter's smaller night's like this have to be wise and clever and this hit both of those buttons expect to see alot of the Leeds honcho's down at this party themselves.Details below.

A buttery mix of all things deep house, electronica, hip hop, broken beat, funk, soul, disco and everything in between. We aim to bring you the widest spectrum of different artists, offer an unparalleled atmosphere, and in doing so, have you all leaving with a massive smile on your face.

**TOM FRANK** (Louche)

A music enthusiast from an early age, it was only a matter of time until Tom picked up his first set of turntables. Not happy with the confines of just decks and a mixer, his set-up quickly started to grow; incorporating more and more hardware offering him new and interesting ways to present his sets.
Tom has been with Louche since it started and has developed and redefined his sound.

Kano-Micro Exploration - The Fabric 17 Shake-Up

This is a Mix that my old partner in crime during the Therapy days has finally finished. I've been aware that he has been working on this for a while, as every time I pop in to Dais (Kano’s shop) he tells me that it's nearly there. He's eventually managed to complete this whilst managing a busy schedule(riding to Scotland, arranging his new night((Canopy)) which a free outdoor party in secret locations around Huddersfield. As well as running his own shop Dais). So all in all a very busy man. He also explained a little about the mix and what it's about.I know personally that he loved this mix when he first discovered electronic music, everybody has that mix/album that hooks you onto the scene and cements your liking for electronic music and for Kano this is the one.
"This mix is an exploration from within. I was keen to revisit some old memories and a certain album had te key. This is my interpretation of what I found. It's a stripped down micro-sample mix of nothing but the original albums tracks cut up into thousands of loops. Layered, looped and repeated to create the groove. "

"It's a personal journey back in time when i first discovered electronic music."

Enjoy..
