Highlights from the second Birthday of Paradise Garage which has been described as the prototype of the modern dance club closed in September 1987 and was the base for the legendary DJ Larry Levan. The club was founded by Michael Brody and located on King Street in the Hudson Square area of New York.
It ran from 1977 to 1987 and derives from its origins as a parking garage. Some of the people who performed at Paradise Garage include Dan Hartman, Divine, Gloria Gaynor, Jocelyn Brown and Grace Jones.
You only have four days left to listen to it!....here!
Check this out and hurry as it only has Three days left on the stream..
"Lenny Fontana has put together an INCREDIBLE audio documentary for BBC Radio 6 called "Legends Of The Dancefloor" - streaming NOW on the iplayer for all to check, it's a vivid account of the heady days of New York City's Paradise Garage and its legendary DJ - the late Larry Levan."
This Friday see's the Premier Screening of "The Last Rokeby Film" which is a series of interviews,Party footage & genereal Push:on behavour.! For the people who don't know about Rokeby,it was NOT just an "afterparty" in Leeds it was an institute for a group of friends who welcomed more friends and then even more friends and then even more friends.!! Almost like the free mason's of the Leeds scene. Anyone based in Leeds worth there 180g in wax has partyed/played there, from Jamie Jones playing while the gas man does his yearly meter reading to Tim Sheridan fixing the alarm & Chicago's Justin Long as well as the ever present Basics regular's Buckley,Tristan & Mr Basics himself Dave Beer.
Freind's have been made here, minds have been lost here but all in all it will always be remembered by everyone who attended with a tale of there own to share about the place.
The film has been put togther via month's of filming and many hours spent editing/choping & even more filming by Rokeby resident & Push:on'er Danny Matthews and follows the life and times in the Push:on house living with the rest of the Push:on'ers Col Gil jnr(jean),Gibby,J-P Swift & Russ.
I can't wait for this mainly to have catch up with the boys/see the final product and hear the rest of the tales, fun n frolics that i missed out on.
WARNING WARNING!!!This is the movie you never want you parents to see!!WARNING!!!
THE LAST ROKEBY FILM
It gives me great pleasure to announce that the feature film is finished and on :
Just a little message to advise you all that Slow Cookin' co-founder & his missus Lizzie have had a new arrival, Little Henry arrived on Sunday eve at 9:45 p.m weighing in at 9lbs 8oz.(fat little knacker eh?)..
We wish them all the best and with his two weeks off you can expect a few posts off him..
We don't have any photo's as yet but i'm sure as we do we'll get one up for you all to see, but until then we have had a guess at what the baby looks like..
Maurice Fulton is one of house music’s true originals, an eccentric ex-pat American DJ now living in Sheffield & has possibly the largest forehead in electronic music, however i believe this is because of all the thought and musically knowledge he puts into his sets is stored up there.
This mix has been kicking about for a fair while now (07ish) and is unreal..perfect pace and put together so well.laid back yet full of energy.
I'm not sure of the full tracklist so be sure to leave what u know in the comments please...
I Recently come accross another Iron Mix hosted by the ever reliable RC-O on soundcloud!
We all love Iron Curtis his production/mixing tekkaz are unreal always keeping things moving up, down, left, right. Disco, house, techno & whatever. With a string of releaseson some serious label's including Huddersfield’s own HuddTraxx he is gathering legendary status by the day!
This is journey through the sound of Iron clocking in and three hours six minutes later clocking out.
WOWZA, two of my favorite things put together.....For the "young un's" who think Villalobos/sven run the world..ah ah!!..Doc Martin has been doin' the doin' since i can remember. The Doc Martin Fabric mix was one of the first mixes i bought way back when, and it still gets a good listen to from time to time.(if you haven't heard this you need too). Doc Martin is a firm fave amoungst the Slow Cookin' gang, a few of them recently even traveled to to see him at Fabric and by all accounts he didin't disapoint..
This weekend you can myself playing at the place i played my first ever gig outside of my pub & bedroom, I will be playing along me old bean Miles(who i ran Le Bloc with)..so expect proper tackle from myself & Miles doin' the doin' the doin' way!
