Tristan Da Cunha-Back to Basics 20th Birthday(live mix)

If Carlsberg did mixe's they'd proberly be the best in the world....no they wouldn't becuse this is.

I don't have to say much apart from,...

This is without a doubt one of the best mixes i've heard & witnessed(i was there)..Tristan has always been a massive influnece to me, from selling records at play/to playing records at basics & been a generally nice guy whose love for music & smiles is visablly blatent.

Heres What Tris has to say about the mix...

BacktoBasics 20 years of Acid House - Nov 26th 2011

What a night this was , 20 years building up to it and it really was up there with the best we've ever done ..... The whole night ticked every box for me and was literally like i'd been transported in a time machine to the crazy hazy days in the early 90's when i just started going out to places like Basics. The atmosphere was electric and vibe was super high frequency with a lot of people going for it & peaking as soon as they got through the door. There was so much love in the club that night... i stood back and watched what was going on around me and i felt extremely proud. Proud that after 20yrs of weekly parties, Basics is still killing it and that i have played a part in some of the magic. I'm not gonna bang on about it too much though as you really did HAVE TO BE THERE to understand how good it was. If you were at BacktoBasics on 26th of November 2011, you know you were a part of house music history. If you weren't then maybe this mix can give your ears an idea of the kind of night it was.

This mix was the last set of the night in the main room 6-8am ... i had no idea what i was gonna play none of it was rehearsed ... it was done in the heat of the moment using the energy and feedback off the dance floor to take me from one record to the next... sounds cheesy i know but that's exactly how it was. Basics has always been a two way thing between the residents and the crowd... we bring the music, they bring the noise... it's a party. Of course i knew some of the records i definitely wanted to play but how or when i was gonna play them was to be decided on the night, in the moment.
Upon reflection, listening back there is a definite narrative & meaning to the tracks or songs i was playing. All the tracks i played with lyrics in were speaking for me and the tracks without were "scene setters"... setting the vibe/theme to feel like a real, sweaty, old school party. Also some of the lyrics are very poignant if you relate them to Basics moving homes & turning the page onto the next chapter in it's epic story. One door closes and another door opens.

I'd like to thank all the loyal basics party people for being the best crowd a d.j could want and thanks to all the artists and labels that work hard to make such amazing music for us to dance and lose our minds to. Without the music or the dancers to dance to it, there would be no party and no d.j's. RESPECT.

Huge Love goes out to all the Basics family for getting this far. It's been one hell of a ride and it ain't over yet ...

Buckle up as we blast into the new year, new era , new dimension.
